What children’s books have you enjoyed recently? This weekend, I stumbled upon five new books for us written by Asian and Asian American authors, and boys loved them …
Firstly: Eyes kissing at the corners By Joanna Ho and Dung Ho graphics. How beautiful is this title? We also really liked it Different pond By Bao Phi and Thi Bui Graphics; When the cousins came By Katie Yamasaki; And the Name jar By Yangsook Choi.
If the children in your life are ready for class books, Superbital By S. Michele Chen Looks Amazing. It tells the story of an eight-year-old girl visiting her grandmother in Taiwan. She discovers that her grandmother is planning to close her dumpling shop because she feels too old to run it. Also, a giant multi-colored beetle is sitting in the bathtub! One of the cool things about Superbeetle is that the author explains how to pronounce some Mandarin Chinese words within the story.
I would like to hear more recommendations, if you have them. xoxo
