Olympia Dukakis, best known for her Oscar-winning movie Absent-minded, Died. She was 89 years old.

Dukakis’ brother, Apollo, announced the news of her death on Saturday in A.D. The social networking site Facebook Mail.

“My beloved sister Olympia Dukakis passed away this morning in New York City. After many months of declining health, I am finally at peace with Louis,” he wrote, referring to her late husband and Broadway veteran Louis Zurich.

Dukakis won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Absent-minded. The 1987 romantic comedy was followed by A Widow, played by Cher, who falls in love with her fiancé’s brother. Dukakis played Cher’s mother the nitpick.

The actress was born in Lowell, Massachusetts to Greek immigrant parents. Dukakis also rose to stardom with her role in Magnolia steelAnd the Mr. Holland’s work And the look who’s Talking.

She founded two regional theaters, in Boston and Montclair, New Jersey, with her husband, Louis Zurich – a producer best known for his role on the TV show crazy of you.
