It’s New Year and the first official Grand Slam tournament has arrived. While there was a lot of uncertainty about whether this event would happen, things officially started starting on Sunday, February 7. World number 1 Ashe Party and Novak Djokovic finished first. Djokovic is the defending champion in the men’s team, while American Sofia Kenin won the Women’s Cup last year. Kenin is fourth this year, and 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu is due to return after 15 months of absence. Roger Federer has chosen to skip this year’s tournament but Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal are set to play for the time being. Williams withdrew from Friday’s restraint course due to a shoulder injury but is confident she will be fine. Nadal did not play in the ATP Cup for Spain due to back problems. The tournament is also full of young people looking to make 2021 their year. One of the rising stars will be absent when the first round ends as seed 11 Denis Shapovalov and Janik Sener meet in a tussle between shotguns.
