The best way to make frozen yogurt and bananas

The instructions sounded very easy. Insert a popsicle stick into the banana. Dip the banana in the flavored yogurt. Freezing.

The first time I made this, I did exactly that. I dipped, the banana fell off the stick, into my bowl. I dipped in again, the milk won’t stick to the banana. So I put yogurt on the banana instead, while the banana lay helplessly on a sheet of paper.

We found that this is a much better way to make these frozen banana balls:

  • Peel the banana and cut it into two or three pieces, depending on the size of the banana
  • Insert a popsicle stick into the banana
  • Place the banana on a baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper. Freezing.
  • Once the bananas are frozen, dip in yogurt and roll it in your topping.
  • Lie on the same tray that you used to freeze the bananas and let them freeze.

How long do frozen bananas last?

Once the bananas are frozen, place them in an airtight container. Frozen bananas will stay fresh for two to three months without losing quality, but the fruit should remain safe to eat for up to 6 months.

If you start noticing a lot of ice crystals or a banana discoloration, it is time to get rid of them.

What is the best type of yogurt?

There are so many types of yogurt, and it can sometimes be difficult to know which one to buy. These are a few things to consider when choosing yogurt.

  • List of ingredients: Try to choose low-ingredient yogurt. Ingredients to include are milk and bacterial cultures. All other ingredients have been added to improve flavor and texture and are not strictly necessary.
  • Excess sugar: Yogurt naturally contains some sugar in the form of lactose. However, food companies often add large amounts of sugar to make the yogurt taste sweeter. For healthy yogurt, choose brands with the lowest sugar per serving. The closer you are to eating 10-15 grams of carbs per cup the better.
  • Fat content: Yogurt can be made with whole, low-fat, or skimmed milk. Although full-fat yogurt contains more calories than low-fat yogurt, it does not necessarily make it a less healthy option. Lots of low-fat yogurt replace the fat with sugar. Choose fat content based on dietary habits, food preferences, and calorie goals.
  • Living cultures: Probiotic bacteria are used to make yogurt by converting lactose into lactic acid to give the yogurt a pungent flavor. These bacteria are referred to as “live cultures”. Many health benefits from this have been shown. Many brands don’t put yogurt’s probiotic content on the label because it’s expensive. One easy way to find out if there are live cultures in yogurt is to avoid yogurt that says “heat treated after planting” because this process kills the bacteria.
  • Greek Yogurt: This type of yogurt is very popular, as it contains twice the amount of protein as conventional yogurt and about half of the carbs. It is also usually thicker and thicker and is a great choice.
