David Bridgewater confirmed The Conditional is an intended runner at Denman Chase in Newbury next weekend, before a possible return to Cheltenham Festival, where the nine-year-old scored a slight win in Ultima Handicap Chase in the final match last season and had two healthy races in defeat. So far this season – he finished third in the Ladbrokes Cup in Newbury and second in the Silver Cup in Ascot. While the weather has disrupted running plans since the start of the year, Bridgewater reports his stable superstar is in poor health as he prepares to clash with King George’s duo clan de oppo and the sexy champ. Going to Newbury next weekend, everything is fine. He doesn’t really have a lot of races left, so he’ll get in again and we’ll try again. “The horse is in great shape, but he will need it.” He was going to Cheltenham for the Cotswold Chase at the end of January, but when he was transferred to Sandown last Saturday I didn’t want to run because I’m not sure he wanted to go with his right hand. To Ascot and I didn’t really like it, so I didn’t think he would like Sandown. ”Bridgewater expects to have a clearer idea after running The Conditional in Newbury about whether or not his Cheltenham Gold Cup entry is realistic, adding:“ If you weren’t around, You will not have a choice. ” Some Gold Cup horses were disappointingly bursting. If some of them blow up on the big day, that will give you a chance to get a little bit of a cash prize. “There are some good Irish horses, but if only English horses are in the race, then I imagine we’d be put into that race.” He’s in the Gold Cup, he’s in the Grand National and he’s going into the same race he won at the festival last year as well. “Either we will go back to this race, which will be amazing, or if it is past Sunday, then we may look at the Gold Cup, which will be the dream of the owner.”
