The 16-team field has been reduced to four as the men’s quarter-finals of the 2021 Olympic soccer tournament in Japan concluded. The usual European and South American heavyweights – Spain, France, Germany, Brazil and Argentina – were the favourites before the tournament, but only Spain and Brazil from the group qualified for the semi-finals after Germany, France and Argentina. He was eliminated from the group stage. The men’s soccer tournament kicked off with a rotating group stage in which each team played three matches against the others in the group (July 22, July 25 and July 28). Teams collected three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss. The top two players in each group advance to the quarter-finals, with pairs predetermined based on group finishing.
