Is watermelon good after freezing?

The short answer is yes. You can freeze watermelon and eat it frozen and still delicious! Once the frozen watermelon thaws, it will be tender. But there are tons of things you can do with frozen watermelon, so don’t throw out your old watermelon!

Ways to use frozen watermelon

  • Turn it into lollipops
  • Make a melon, granita, or sherbet slush
  • Mix it into a smoothie
  • Mix the melon and other fruit of your choice and make popsicles

  • To get started, cut the watermelon into tablets.
  • Cut the discs into “slices” and then cut them into smaller cubes for smaller size. Basically, you just want pieces that will make for good popsicle shapes.

  • Place a popsicle stick in the center of each piece.

How to make watermelon pops

Once you’ve chopped up the melon and put popsicle sticks in it, you can start dipping!

  • Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second increments. Stir every 30 seconds.
  • Let the chocolate cool for just a few minutes before dipping.
  • Take each cube of watermelon and dip in the chocolate until the chocolate is roughly half of it. You can use a spoon to help spread the chocolate over the melon.
  • If you want to add a topping, sprinkle it now while the chocolate is still slightly melted.
  • Place it on a baking tray lined with a piece of parchment paper.
  • Place the baking tray in the freezer for 2 hours or until it freezes.

After a few hours, you will have delicious fresh watermelon balls! You can prepare a large batch of them in about 10 minutes. And not only is it fast but also inexpensive! You can make one of these pops for about 10 cents depending on how much watermelon you get. And you can feel good about letting your kids eat more than one because they are so full of nutrients.
