More gloss? wrinkle less? Amazing texture? At goop, we want these benefits whether or not we blow dry, straight iron, build up styling products, or get chemical services to change the texture of our hair. The GP says, “In the same way that I prefer using great skincare versus a lot of makeup, I want my hair to look and feel its healthiest, even without all the styling tricks.”
Hair colour, heat styling, and even hormones can drastically change the look and feel of your hair — and we wanted our hair back. We wanted an easy solution with instant results that works for all hair types and textures.
THE REPAIR: A new pre-shampoo glow serum treatment that reduces damage, frizz, dryness and split ends and adds noticeable shine and texture that lasts until the next shampoo. “It’s kind of a miracle on my hair,” says the GP. “I leave it on for twenty minutes before I shampoo it, and the results last until I shampoo again—I don’t know how it does it, but it’s amazing.”
She had wanted a serum for a while. “Obviously I’m bleaching my hair,” she says. “Especially after I started working with Tracy Anderson—I get really sweaty, pull my hair into a ponytail, everything that goes along with that—I started to break. The solution was to apply conditioner beforehand, like a heat and conditioning treatment. But it was a bad idea—all that conditioner. With all the chemicals dripping onto my face. I wanted a serum, that would sink in and make a noticeable difference. And what the team came up with was a game-changer.”
Clinically Proven GOOPGLOW Restore + Shine Hair Serum is made with skin-preserving Vitamin C, omega-rich Sea Buckthorn, and hydrating Plumeria Monoi Oil, plus Macadamia, Castor, Sesame, and Sunflower oils to address all signs of hair damage. Hair, from overprocessed and frizzy to dry and split ends. And while you’ll notice a change in your hair the first time you try it on, frequent use pays off in more shine, softness, and great texture.

GP’s new hair routine
What’s great about a serum is that you simply add it to your routine as a first step – the foundation for shiny, healthy-looking hair. You can do this every shampoo or every few, depending on your hair. GP, whose hair has some damage and some frizz, loves to use it in every shampoo. “Before I exercise or do an infrared sauna, I shake up a serum and split my still-dry hair in two,” she says. “I smooth a dropper of serum (the amount you use depends on your hair type and length—my hair needs a lot) in my hands and run it through my hair from roots to ends, concentrating on my ends, where there is the most damage.”
“I wear it in a ponytail with a slip silk bow tie, which further protects against breakage, so the heat of working out or sweating in the sauna, for me, makes it into this amazing beauty and wellness treatment. It works in just twenty minutes, so I can That’s quick and easy if you don’t have time to practice!”

“I shampoo with a sticky salt scrub twice a week, and when I do, I use the Crown Affair Mask as a conditioner—I’m obsessed with it,” says the GP. “It’s one of those products that are incredibly clean. Or I use a lighter shampoo and conditioner – Innersense is great. I also take Viviscal every day.”
“I get out of the shower and wrap my hair in a super absorbent hair towel for a minute (I don’t like to leave it on for too long), then apply a bit of Crown Affair Serum as a cleanser to my hair. Finish it and comb it through,” she says. “I really didn’t have time to blow-dry. If I had a meeting, I would take my semi-wet hair and twist it to one side and that’s my look. When it dries, it’s shiny, with that gorgeous softness—healthy vibes.”

Goop beauty section before and after serum
Once the serum was ready, the beauty department got me some pre-sampling. Senior Beauty Editor Megan O’Neill is thirty-six, with gorgeous, really curly, textured hair, and she’s just had a baby. Brianna Peters, our assistant beauty editor, is in her 30s and has straight, colorful hair with plenty of highlights. Beauty director Jean Godfrey-John is fifty-seven, with her wavy hair color-coded, and her texture is starting to change in a way she didn’t like—the top is more wrinkled and rougher than it used to be. But despite wildly different hair types, all three editors saw significant results after trying the serum.
Megan loves her soft, stunning curls. “My odd texture tends to be dry, brittle, and prone to frizz,” she says. But the serum—it’s so hydrating—sooths a forest of coils in silky swirls. My mom, a woman who spurs praise in moderation, looked like she’d made the money when I walked out of my bedroom one morning: ‘What are you doing to your hair these days?’ It’s amazing. The serum gives me soft, floating, perfectly blended curls. “
Use the serum once a week. “I like to take a two-minute midday break of leaning over my laptop to massage it from roots to ends—about a dropper and a half does the trick. I let it sink in while I finish the workday. the faint rose scent) that night before bed and wrapped my hair into a few little braids around my head for a more lush texture. In the morning and the rest of the week, my messy curls were shinier, bouncier, and more ghostly than ever. I’m just a freak ‘love this stuff.’
Jane, who has always been very happy with her hair, has recently noticed more frizz, a coarse texture, and less frizz. “As you get older, it turns out that your texture can change—colorist Mary Robinson broke the news to me about a month ago (coloring contributes too, but that’s extra, on top of the change from ageing),” he says. “It’s like your hair on day two is suddenly looking messy instead of great. And all I can say is: If this texture change sounds at all familiar, try the serum! It gave me back my hair – shine, waves, smooth texture! Feels easy. My hair used to be the only thing I could count on, and now I can count on it again. And strangely enough for me, the effect lasts for two shampoos.”
“I do a routine with her every two or three shampoos,” Jen says. “I smooth the serum from the top of my hair—not exactly from the roots, a little further—to my ends and go for a run, take a yoga class, or jump in the sauna my friend built during the pandemic. Twenty minutes later, I use my shampoo and conditioner. Grown Alchemist’s A nourishing line, I can’t rave about it enough. I spray the ends of my hair with Rahua’s Genius Leave-In Conditioner, then wipe it off with manta brush-That’s it. I wait for my hair to dry – and it does its former magic trick of styling itself. The serum really got my hair back, full stop.”

“I’ve been highlighting my hair since I was 16, so it’s dry and brittle, almost like straw,” Briana says. “But this serum gives me commercially shampooed hair: super silky, shiny, and feels healthier than ever. The next day, I couldn’t believe how good my hair was still—I usually have to restyle it and load it up with dry shampoo, but somehow, my hair was Better than the day before.(I even got compliments from my co-workers.) Since then, I’ve been using the serum two or three times a week: I massage two drops into my hair from roots to ends. Once in, I set my hair with a Deborah Pagani pin ( So lovely and so easy!) And I take my puppy for her usual morning walk. As soon as I come back, I shower, shampoo with Rahua color-treating shampoo, conditioner with Sangre de Fruta conditioner that smells amazing, brush and style it. (I love the new GAMA hair dryer – it’s It dries my hair in record time, and it’s incredibly lightweight, so it’s easier to hold while I give myself a blowout).”
