One day while I was walking 100 miles a minute, I ran to my hormone doctor’s office to have my blood checked.
In front of me was a pretty girl talking to the doctor. We ended up meeting and talking and as it turns out, she is a member of Skinny secrecy social communication.
Once we talked, she told me her name is Amy Kerner and that she’s been seeing our hormone doctor forever. She has collected tons of tips and tricks since coming to Los Angeles. I was very intrigued.
Amy is smart, has good research, and she felt like she’d be an ideal person to own a blog. I wanted her to come talk about her health journey. In this post, she will share her experience with hormones and her relationship with food and things that have helped her recover.
Let’s welcome Amy Skinny secrecy.

Amy Kerner: Hey TSC community !! My name is Amy and I am a fan of everything related to health and wellness, fashion, art and history. I am a city girl at heart. I secretly wish to be the head of a family.
I was born in New York City and Westchester County New York. I now reside in Los Angeles, California. I still feel like I’m either on vacation or in the witness protection program. I learned to adapt to Lala’s lifestyle by hiking and going to farmers’ markets to get fresh fruits and vegetables and support our local farmers. Love how easy it is to find vegan restaurants here. Still a city chick but I have added a Southern Kali girl to my profile.
♡ I have had a journey when it comes to hormones and food. Can you talk about that?
If: I suffered from an eating disorder when I was younger. I never share this part of me with anyone because of the shame and stigma attached to it. Not only does it disappear, it learns how to function in society. She has realized that with self-love and healthy lifestyle choices, it becomes easier over time.
As far as my hormones are concerned, I once felt so exhausted, depressed and gaining weight. All I was able to do was work out and then I finished that day. Luckily, I had a yearly medical appointment as I had just hysterically snapped up to Dr. Aliabadi, who is definitely the most amazing doctor.
She suggested that I come back the next morning to have my thyroid plaque checked. This is a blood test where your hormone levels are checked. Well, let’s just say my thyroid gland wasn’t working at all. I still to this day thank her all the time for this discovery.
This started my journey with living with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, which also happens to be the most common cause of hypothyroidism. It is an autoimmune disorder that involves chronic inflammation of the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland is essentially not functioning and I am seeing a hormone specialist, Dr. Shirley Elzinga. It has been my saving grace and I am so grateful to have it in my life.
♡ Looking back, what do you think about the initiation of food-related problems and how did you overcome these problems?
If: I was always a perfectionist and people please. So food was something I could control and focus on when my life felt unmanageable. I am now able to use the tools I have learned to maintain your health and happiness.

If: I think getting my hormones balanced is a game-changer. I am so grateful that I listened to my intuition and knew that something was not right. I managed to get to the root of the problem. Now I sleep better and have more energy. I really feel like a new person.
♡ What advice would you give to someone suffering from food?
If: I think I can find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable and who specializes in eating disorders. I focus on eating fresh, whole food. I never leave the house without a snack and water. If you are organized and ready, feel confident to succeed.
♡ What advice would you give someone who suffers from his hormones?
