Health Minister Ong Yi Kung stated today (May 18) that the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has authorized the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for children between the ages of 12 and 15.
The Ministry of Health said that it will work with the Ministry of Education on a vaccination program for this age group, and provide more updates in a timely manner.
This is the first Covid-19 vaccine approved for use in this age group in Singapore. Previously, only those 16 years of age or older were considered suitable for receiving the vaccine.
And our expert committee on COVID-19 vaccination has focused on advocating for it. Both teams assessed that the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine showed high efficacy and safety for this 12 to 15-year-old age group, which is consistent with what we observed for adults.
