The world’s second most populous country – and also one of the largest manufacturers of vaccines – imposed the ban in the spring as India races to raise its immunization rate. Now, officials in the United States and with Covax, the UN-backed coronavirus vaccine distribution initiative that has relied on India to provide about 1 billion injections this year, hope a more stable health situation will convince the country to resume exports. The pressure comes as rich nations, including the United States, move to provide booster doses of the coronavirus to their vaccinated populations.
