Israel and the Palestinian Authority have agreed to a deal to exchange more than one million vaccination doses from Pfizer for Covid-19, according to a joint announcement by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Defense. Under the terms of the deal, Israel will transfer to the Palestinian Authority between 1 million and 1.4 million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, which will expire soon, in exchange for a shipment of Pfizer vaccine doses scheduled for delivery to the Palestinian Authority in September-October 2021. Related Materials Conducted Negotiations over such a deal over the past few months but the decision to move forward on the matter has been put on hold by the previous government. Israel has previously given the Palestinian Authority several thousand doses of vaccine to medical teams and vaccinated more than 100,000 Palestinians working in Israel. Israel has conducted one of the most successful vaccinations against the Covid-19 virus in the world, in which 5.5 million citizens have been vaccinated, including 5.15 million with two vaccines. As a result, only a few new cases of Covid-19 are diagnosed each day. But Israel has come under international criticism for its failure to extend the vaccination campaign to the Palestinians. A defense source told Globes that the vaccination deal that was agreed upon includes an element of goodwill and symbolizes the new Israeli government’s willingness to improve the lives of Palestinians.
