A similar atmosphere exists now. On Israeli television, May Golan, a lawmaker from Netanyahu’s Likud party, described Bennett and other leaders in the potential new government as “terrorists” and “suicide bombers”. Netanyahu himself turned to Israel’s Channel 20, a network similar to some of the right-wing American channels that repeated Trump’s false allegations about the November elections, to bemoan the supposed plots against him and attack other Israeli media outlets. After the social media accounts of the prime minister’s son, Yair Netanyahu, were temporarily suspended when he urged his supporters to sit in the home of an opposition lawmaker, Likud officials saw themselves as victims of “censorship” by big tech companies.
