Leicester City striker Kelichi Iheanacho has been nominated for the Best Player of the Month award and Premier League Goal of the Month award. Iheanacho scored five goals in three league matches in the month under review, as the Fennecs cemented their bid for next season’s UEFA Champions League with a win and two draws. The Nigerian international is competing with Manchester City player Riyad Mahrez, Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, West Ham United’s Jesse Lingard, Leeds United’s Ilan Messliere, Manchester United’s Luke Shaw, Brighton and Hove Albion’s Leandro Trussard, and Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen for his first prize In the English Premier League. After injury to James Madison and Harvey Barnes, Iheanacho boosted his performance at Brendan Rodgers when he returned to the starting line-up against Burnley on March 3, saving a point for the Foxes in Turf Moore after he joined countryman Wilfred Ndidi. To cancel the opening match of Matt Vedra, the spectacular volleyball was also selected for the Best Goal Award in the Premier League, and three days later, the 24-year-old inspired Leicester City’s comeback to beat Brighton and Hove Albion by tying in the 62nd minute. On the visitors’ three points at the Amex Stadium, not only does it stop there for Rodgers, it is Bug. With a confirmed victory at his only stadium in the league in March, with a 5–0 victory for Sheffield United, Ahanacho scored his first Premier League hat-trick in the match and became the fifth Nigerian player to score three times in the Premier League. A match, and his contributions in March raised his Premier League tally to six goals after 16 games so far, while Leicester City is third in the league table, one point behind second-placed Manchester United. Mahrez is the other African star in the selection of eight players after he presented the man-of-the-match performance in Manchester City’s victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton, in addition to his performance, the Algerian international scored three goals in four Premier League matches. Along with Pep Guardiola, Ahinacho and Mahrez will meet after the international break with scheduled league leaders Manchester City on a trip to Leicester City on April 3.
