Let’s be real: It’s obviously very hard to find great vintage and second hand clothes online. You never know what you’re going to get until he arrives. Think you get one thing and then it looks completely different?
Today I give you some tips and tricks to save online. I got a lot of these tips from my best friend Erica Tweet embed. She has a lot of secrets when it comes to online shopping and finding vintage pieces. I personally love Thredup. It’s the best online thrift store I’ve been using for a while now. 5 Tips from The Skinny Confidential’s for buying vintage and used products online:
♡ make a plan.
Make sure you have a great vibe – I love creating an Instagram Favorites folder, and there I have all my vintage finds favored by bloggers, celebrities or the everyday girl. Her name is “VINTAGE BABY”. This way I know exactly what I’m looking for.
Think of this like a pin board, but on Instagram. You can go back to it and keep adding to your IG folder.
(For example, I was looking for a very specific Louis Vuitton cosmetic bag, so I put it in my Instagram folder. One day I was looking at my favorite online thrift store (yeah, Thredup – Don’t worry, we’ll get there in seconds) and there it was. Sold. Use it all the time now.
To say finding an item that was on my old vision board is an understatement. Sometimes you don’t find what you’re looking for right away, so putting everything on Instagram is incredibly strategic. laughing loudly.
♡ be patient.
This brings me to my next point…be patient. It is very difficult to do this but you have faith.
It is frustrating to know exactly what you want and not be able to find it anywhere. I can’t tell you how many times this has happened to me – as if we’ve all been there.
Lately, there’s been this dreamy buttery black and white flannel that I so desperately wanted. I took it off with a full costume in my head, but couldn’t find it anywhere. Then one random day when I was taking a look Thredup (again) It popped up. The feeling was so exciting – almost like finding treasure?
Something about hunting really gets me going, which is why I love shopping for vintage and second hand.
So be patient. What you want won’t always be available when you want it which is why the Instagram visibility panel is so important. You can keep checking back to easily find what you want Thredup, even daily, because you never know.

And this is clear. Make sure you do your research before committing to any site. We’ve all heard horror stories about buying something on a random site and it doesn’t look or appear completely different from the picture.

Finding unique pieces that no one else has (or can’t have!) makes your wardrobe even more interesting, especially when you have a holiday or events coming up. It’s special knowing that no one else will ever get it.
With Rails flannel, I ordered a black velvet dress and paired them both. It was very big. Buying pre-loved clothes and shoes is an affordable way to buy high-quality classic items, but you can also play around with your wardrobe and buy things you don’t normally wear.
Get out of your comfort zone, at an affordable cost. elegance.
Side note: Know your bullshit when it comes to selling your clothes. Do your research here too I will never forget that I am 21 and selling my stuff on an unauthorized site. I sent all the merchandise and the buyer objected to the transaction and there was nothing the company could do about it. A big lesson learned, so I always do my research when it comes to buying/selling online.
