Poems can change your life, NBD

Ethan Hawke

Ethan Hawke gave TED talk About creativity, and this part took my breath away…

Do you think human creativity is important? Well Well. Most people don’t spend much time thinking about hair. right? They have a life to live, and they’re not really interested in Allen Ginsberg’s poems or anyone’s poems, until their father dies, they go to a funeral, you lose a child, someone breaks your heart, they don’t love you anymore, and all of a sudden, you’re desperate to understand this life, and, ‘Have you felt Has anyone been this bad before? How did they get out of this cloud?

Or vice versa – a great thing. You meet someone and your heart explodes. You love them so much, you can’t even see straight. You know, you are dizzy. Has anyone ever felt this way? What’s happening to me?’ That’s when art isn’t a luxury, it’s actually a sustenance. We need it.

IlliterateHer husband is 95 years old (26 years older than her), and he thinks a lot about death and dying. He loves this poem, which he says makes him feel visible at this point in his life:

rain
by Billy Collins

Last night we ended up on the couch
trying to remember
All friends who have died so far,

I wrote it this morning
in alphabetical order
On the other side of the shopping list
I had left it on the kitchen table.

Many of them were swept away
Like a hand from heaven,
It was good to remember them,
I was thinking
Under the cold supermarket lights
While I was guiding a cart with a wobbling wheelعجل
Up and down steep long lanes.

I was looking for blueberries,
English muffin, linguine, heavy cream,
light bulbs, apples, Canadian bacon,
and anything else on the list,
that managed to keep the grocery side,

Until I passed through the electric doors,
Where I ceased to perceive,
When I flipped the list,
I forgot Terry O’Shea
As well as bananas and bread.

It was flowing by then,
As they say in Ireland,
People are splashing across a lot on their cars.
So when I set out,
walking slowly and meticulously,
soaking wet man
carry grocery bags,
He walks as if in a procession honoring the dead.

I felt I owed this to Terry,
Who was a strong painter,
Almost forgottenسيان
And to all who were formed
Circle it on the screen in my head.

I’m walking more slowly now
In the presence of mercy
The dead was extending to a companion,

Plus I wasn’t in a hurry to go back
To the kitchen, where I have to tell you
It’s all about terry, bananas and bread.

Once again hair was important to me during my wedding. I desperately wanted to express the depths of my feeling, but everything seemed lousy. Until. At our party my friend kanan He read “Our Union” by Hafez, so I cried. And my dad read These Years Later When I went through depression, which made me cry too!

Our union is like this: It’s getting cold, so I ask for a blanket to cover our shivering feet. / Hunger comes into your body, so I run to my garden and start digging potatoes. / You asked for a few words of comfort and guidance, and I quickly knelt beside you and present you a whole book as a gift. / You hurt so lonely one night that you cry, and I say here is a rope, tie it around me, I will be your companion for life.

Fatherhood can also turn your world upside down and poetic Kate Beyer A mother of four understands this confusion deeply.

Deleted sentences
Dear husband. Dear beloved. dear darling
heart. No, I don’t want to go to the barbecue
Hardly scheduled for a nap. I do not want
Go to the party either. Can you tell your sister
Also this? In the morning I saw you dancing with
Our daughter almost cried for a moment.
I hate when people say I almost cried. why so
Remember it at all?

What time will you be at home? At what time will
Think you might be at home? At what time should we
Waiting for you outside on the grass while pasta
Boil and cry baby because he misses you?
Oh, before I go – What time will you be home?

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if you
He died and I had to write a eulogy while I was lost in my country
Sadnes. What can I say? And who will come out?
Garbage baskets on dark Sunday nights or hold
Children crying fever dreams?

What time will you be at home?

And while some poems make you feel understood, others help you understand the people around you.

widow’s lament
Written by Richard Brutigan

It’s not cold enough
To go borrow some firewood
from the neighbors.

Oh my heart. What poems have resonated in your life? I love to love to hear
