Sailor trade rumors: GM Jerry DePoto says Kendall Grafman’s Astros deal isn’t just a move to deadline

Mariners players are said to be upset that general manager Jerry DePoto replaced late loyalist Kendall Grafman with the division’s Astros on Tuesday in the middle of a streak between the two teams. The M family acquired dilute Joe Smith and player Abraham Toro for Graveman and loyalist Rafael Monteiro. Dipoto understands the frustration at the club but says he is working on other deals that make the move understandable. “Sure, definitely worried. But hopefully the next moves make more sense,” he told reporters, according to MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer. “And then for the players, I think they will find that we are very committed as well as the team.” Diputo told reporters that other deals could be completed later Tuesday or Wednesday. (Update: Mariners got left-handed starter Tyler Anderson of Buccaneers early Wednesday for two minor leagues. Anderson was reportedly heading to Phillies on Tuesday afternoon before the deal fell apart.) Fagan: The best options were the sailors flying high after rising from a 7-0 deficit to beat the Astros 11-8 on Monday night. Dylan Moore in the eighth inning of a Grand Slam from loyal Brooks Raleigh was the decisive blow. The victory moved M (55-46) to one game behind A for the wild card. Second in the MLS, Grafman took credit for the win after hitting the eighth inning without any injuries. And he had 10 saves in 12 chances to go with 0.82 ERA in 33 Seattle rounds. A day later, he was walking to the other side of Seattle for the rest in two games of the series. Now former teammates are reported to have taken the step aggressively and directed their anger at Dipoto for killing their soul. “An hour ago, it was pretty cool,” one player, who chose to remain anonymous, told The Seattle Times. “Maybe it was better than it ever was. And now, it’s the worst.” Paul Swald scored the last three times for a tackle. He thinks the Mariners’ base line is closer to moving forward unless, of course, Dipoto is close to adding a closer anchor in one of his promised trades.
