All Israelis, even if they are not vaccinated, will be allowed to enter European Union countries for any purpose, without needing to go into isolation. Today, the European Union decided to put Israel on a very short list of “green countries”, which have minimal levels of Covid-19 infection. This means that the Israelis will be allowed to enter the European Union as tourists and not just to meet urgent family or business needs, as was the case during the past year. Although the decision was taken by the European Union, member states still had the right to adopt or reject the arrangement. The European Union Commissioner called on member states to “gradually remove restrictions” on countries on the Green List, which includes Israel. To qualify for the Green List, the country needs an infection rate of less than 25 cases per 100,000, lasting more than two weeks. Israel’s rate is much lower than this. Israel has recorded an average of 68 new cases of COVID-19 per day over the past few weeks, or 10 cases per 100,000 people. Other countries on the green list are Australia, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and part of China. If the countries accept the recommendation, they will allow all Israelis for any purpose, even if they have not been vaccinated, although unvaccinated Israelis will have to isolate them upon return to Israel.
