The Budget Framework Bill is the first of six bills the Knesset will vote on in debating the state’s first three-year budget. After the debate that began at 10:00 this morning, the Knesset gave the first reading of the first six bills on the state budget, setting the budget framework and the maximum deficit, by a vote of 59 to 53. The debate and voting on the remaining five bills is scheduled to continue until the evening Under an agreement reached between the coalition and the opposition. The Knesset committee will meet next Thursday and the following Sunday to determine the committees that will prepare the reforms contained in the bill on economic arrangements accompanying the budget. One of the reforms, the introduction of the regulation authority, was a point of contention among the coalition parties themselves, as Meretz and Labor opposed it. Today, talks are taking place in Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s Knesset room about a settlement. Three years have passed since the Knesset last approved the state budget. Now Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman has presented her with a two-year budget. The budget framework will be NIS 432.3 billion for 2021 and NIS 452.5 billion for 2022.
