What is Title IX
In order to comply with Title IX, institutions receiving federal funds must take steps to ensure that there is equal opportunity for men and women. Furthermore, schools must also ensure that students do not face any form of sexual harassment or abuse while attending school.

Who is Covered by Title IX
Title IX is applicable to both public and private educational institutions receiving any form of federal funding. Many elementary schools and secondary schools also operate under Title IX. Education and/or training programs funded by the federal government also come within Title IX’s purview.
Schools and other educational facilities must provide equal opportunity to both males and females. These include public and private elementary and secondary schools, as well as vocational education programs.
Types of Title IX Cases
Discriminating against an athlete in the recruitment or admissions process; Almost any type of sex discrimination results in a Title IX claim. For example, if a school does not provide equal opportunities for male and female athletes, then it is violating Title IX. Similarly, if a university provides unequal housing options for men and women, it could be violating Title IX.
In recruiting athletes, discriminating against them because of gender; offering less financial aid based on sex; sexual harassment involving a student, teacher, administrator, or employee; discriminatory treatment of pregnant students; and sexual harassment involving a student or employee.
Students should be disciplined differently based on gender; Teachers should engage in activities that discriminate based on gender; Employers should employ individuals without regard to gender; Employees should report instances of sexual harassment by others, and Individuals who exercise rights under Title IX should not suffer retaliation because of participation in protected activity.
