Beyond striped shirts and sexy hair, defining the perfect French girl look without relying on clichés is a bit, shall we say, Difficult. So we turned to the experts – three creative Parisians you might recognize from your feed – and asked them to tell us, in their own words, what the French style is for them.

“For me, it’s about finding some great clips that define your personality and in which you feel your best,” introduces the woman who wrote How to be a Parisian wherever you are. (Follow-up book, Older, but better, but older– A bunch of jokes about the pros and cons of aging – equally cool.) “Then you wear it over and over again, mixing it with the basics. Call it French style if you like it!”
Jaya Repossi
Artist by training, jewelry designer, creative director of Repossi
“The French style means natural evolution with a hint of roughness,” says Repossi simply. The daughter of master jewelry maker Alberto Repossi, presented her first design to the family business when she was only 19 years old, and rebelliously insisted on designing a diamond necklace with a plain T-shirt – a high and low aesthetic ahead of her time, and a design that sticks with it to this day.

“My favorite takeaway about the way French women dress is that it’s not in style,” London-based Parisienne explains. “We know what works for us (or definitely try to figure it out as we go through the stages of femininity) and repeat clothes without feeling ashamed of them.” The essentials: cool jeans, a necktie, and a little something on the lips.
