The first round of the 2021 NCAA Championship, known as day and night basketball, turbulence and lightning strikes, will have a different schedule than last year. It expanded to 64 teams in 1985, but games this year will be postponed to start after one day – Friday, as the top four, which started in 2011, have been played Tuesday and Wednesday since their inception. But with the entire tournament being held in the Indianapolis area this year due to COVID-19, the tournament schedule has been changed for logistical reasons, resulting in all of the first four matches being played on Thursday.
